We had our fair share of chances in the first half, but unfortunately a Ramos own goal gifted FC Barcelona the win

Despite the change in venue, we were again denied victory against Barcelona in LaLiga EA Sports. This encounter was a relatively even affair in the first half, with the match goalless at the break, both teams having enjoyed good chances. Unfortunately, the home side stole a march after the interval, ultimately sealing the win with Sergio Ramos deflecting the ball into his own net via a cross from Yamal on the right wing. Although we worked our way back into the game in the closing stages, Xavi's men defended well enough to protect their lead

Play began with a period of dominant possession from FC Barcelona but our backline was well organised and quick to react to their counter attacks. Early opportunities were created by Joao Felix and Rakitic. Then, Lukebakio and Ocampos continued to threaten, along with Lamela, who enjoyed a bright spell in the opening half-hour. An Ocampos shot was blocked by Gavi, with a link-up between Lukebakio and Lamela that forced a clearance from Ter Stegen featuring among the first-half highlights for the Mendilibar's men. Xavi's side hit back and Joao Félix hit the crossbar and Fermín, who replaced the injured Raphinha with ten minutes to go before the break, shot just over the bar from Joao Félix's low, half-volley.

After an even first half, it the second half we found it more difficult to create dangerous chances

The pattern of the game changed in the second half with FC Barcelona pushing high up the pitch as we found it harder to get out of our half. Soon after the restart, Lewandoski had a dangerous chance after a rebound from Nyland that Juanlu just managed to get across to block. Soon after Medilibar made changes as Fernando came on for Sow. The best chance of the game for Sevilla came with a header for Rakitic at the near post that whistled past Lamela and Ocampos.  Unfortunately, it was the home side who made it 1-0 when a cross from Yamal was deflected into the goal by Ramos with Nyland wrong-footed. Acuña and Mariano came on late on in a bid to get back into the game and the striker was about to shoot after a great break down the flank from Navas but he was denied at the last moment by a block.

In the final few minutes, we pushed on, while Barcelona defended well to claim all three points as we returned from the Estadio Lluís Companys empty-handed and ending the four-match unbeaten run. Now we look ahead to the Champions League and Tuesday night's trip to Eindhoven, as we look for a win to improve our chances of qualifying from the group stage.
