Sevilla FC couldn't bounce back from defeat in the Moscow, losing 4-0 to a Valencia side who were lethal on the counter-attack. A second consecutive league defeat in a match that saw Lenglet pick up an injury in the first-half
Cuerpo Superior

A difficult night for Berizzo's men in the Mestalla, falling to a 4-0 defeat. Valencia got their first through Guedes on the stroke of half-time. Zaza scored the second just after the restart and with Sevilla looking for a reply, Valencia scored twice through Mina and Guedes again on counter-attacks.

Given Valencia's matches in the past weeks, the frantic start came as no surprise. With the first ten minutes packed with end-to-end stuff, Marcelino's men already looked dangerous, looking for spaces in behind Sevilla's centre-backs. But Sevilla had their chances too. Muriel made Neto work after three minutes, unfortunately he could find an opener. Not long after, Banega tried his luck from outside the box. The Sevilla defense initially dealt with the Valencian attacking threat well.

Lenglet was forced to come off for Corchia on half an hour with an injury

Unfortunately, the first setback came on half an hour in the form of an injury. Lenglet, who not long before had picked up a knock from Soler, was forced off the field for Corchia, with Mercado moving to centre-back. The game entered a period of comparative calm, where chances dried up and Sevilla did not look to be struggling. However, two minutes from half-time, 1-0 came on the counter-attack. A fine run from Guedes was finished with an shot that gave Sergio Rico no chance whatsoever.

To make matters worse, Berizzo's men picked up four yellow cards in a physical match and things didn't improve for the team in the second half either; another goal for the opponent. Zaza met the ball outside of the area, dribbled it around Kjaer then curling it to the back post. There were several chances for Muriel who could've made the score 2-1, but Valencia, taking control of the game, had a much calmer style of play.

After the second Valencia were able to control the game with more calm

Berizzo looked for a response in the form of Sarabia, who replaced Nolito, and Sevilla looked for Muriel in attack. The Colombian looked for runs to the wings to create space. Sarabia made a difference in attack, with a shot that went just wide and a fine cross to Muriel who's header went wide of Neto's left post. The last third of the game saw Sevilla look for a goal but there was no luck for the Nervionenses. A counter-attack five minutes from time made it gave Valencia their third, with Santi Mina sliding it under Sergio Rico. Guedes added insult to injury by adding a fourth in added-time.

The second consecutive league defeat and the third including the Champions League loss in Russia. Before returning to Nervión next Saturday, the team will play Cartagena on Tuesday in a Copa del Rey match, a game in which many changes will expected with respect to the starting eleven seen tonight in the Mestalla.
