This Friday the Sevilla FC Chairman, José Castro, presented Joaquín Caparrós as the Director of Football at the Club. Castro assured that Caparrós' role encompassed "full sporting responsibility at the Club", also commenting "we've been having talks with Joaquín for more than a month on the matter, because we knew that we had to appoint someone already at the Club. The first option was, is and always will be from within, someone who, in addition to Sevillismo, is grieving and that is what I want, to have someone who feels this pain".

Asked about the frustrated attempts to assign a Sports Director to work alongside the technical team, the Chairman made clear that: "we were clear from the beginning that we were going to take on someone already in the Club, raised here and grieving. That doesn't mean that we haven't searched for a specific profile, that we have looked, but that it has not been possible to connect with the team we had already".

Speaking about Caparrós, he commented "we looked to Joaquín Caparrós when the Club was dying, on almost all levels. Now that he has returned, the Club is once again alive and now we want to continue like this and keep achieving".

Asked about the futures of Clement Lenglet and Steven Nzonzi at the Club, Castro commented "we are speaking with Lenglet, it's not a secret. He's still got a few years left on his contract with us, and we want him to stay here for years to come...We don't have any information with regards to Barcelona. Yesterday we had a meeting with his agent and his father and all that was said was that he was happy here...With regards to Nzonzi, there is no news. He is going to play in the World Cup and we hope that he has a great run, there'll be time to discuss it all".
