LOÏC BADÉ, THE LATEST SEVILLISTA TO MAKE THEIR FRANCE DEBUT
The club has always had a number of French players, and especially in the 21st century. In fact, after Spain and Argentina, it is the country with the third-highest number of Sevillitas. Among them, there are many who have excelled not only at club level, but also at international level. This Sunday, in fact, saw another Sevillista make his debut for France. Loïc Badé, who was Olympic runner-up last August with the under-23 team and who had already been called up by Didier Dechamps on a number of occasions, made his full senior debut playing 90 minutes in the UEFA Nations League third-place play-off. France beat Germany 2-0 in Stuttgart thanks to goals from Mbappé and Olise.
Badé thus becomes the fifth Sevillista player to make his debut for France's senior side, joining a select club in which, curiously features a number of defenders. The last player to make their debut while at the club was Jules Koundé, who did so on 2 June 2021 in a friendly in Nice against Wales. Before that, Wissam Ben Yedder had done so on 23 March 2018 in another friendly, this time in Saint-Denis against Colombia. A few months earlier, Steven Nzonzi, had made his debut in another warm-up match against Wales in Paris on 10 November 2017.
After Spain and Argentina, it is the country with the third-highest number of Sevillitas.
The first player to begin this run was none other than Julien Escudé. He did so on 11 October 2006, 10 months after arriving at Nervión from AFC Ajax but already with a UEFA Cup and a European Super Cup title to his name. That Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands was the first of 13 matches he would play for his national team.
And although they did not make their international debuts, a number of other players made their second appearance for France such as Sebastien Squillaci, Kevin Gameiro, Benoit Tremoulinas and Adil Rami.
As well as lifting trophies during their time in Nervion, a number of players also won titles on the international stage. For example, Steven Nzonzi won the World Cup in 2018 - the second player after Jesús Navas to win the World Cup while with the club. Meanwhile, Jules Koundé was a UEFA Nations League winner in 2021. After his time at Nervión, Adil Rami also won the 2018 World Cup - although he had signed for Marseille - while Ben Yedder and Nzonzi joined Koundé in winning the Nations League title in 2021.
