A late goal from Sergi Guardiola in the sixth minute of injury time condemned us to a second late defeat in a week

Cádiz recorded their first-ever victory at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium, as they kept alive their survival homes thanks to a late Sergi Guardiola goal. It was far from a good performance as we struggled to create chances. It means a second late defeat after Sorloth scored a 97th-minute winner for Villarreal just four days ago.

In a vital match for the away side, Cádiz started the game the better of the two sides. Chris Ramos wasted no time in latching onto a ball at the edge of the box, which Nyland managed to gather easily. Gradually, however, we found our rhythm, and Lukebakio tested Ledesma after bursting forward with a shot from a narrow-angle that the Argentine goalkeeper did well to get down low. Quique's men strung together several attacking moves, among which referee Ortiz Arias waved away an appeal after a tussle between Fali and En-Nesyri inside the box. Cádiz should have taken the lead before the interval, first as Rober Navarro hit the crossbar with a strike from outside the area and then Chris Ramos missed a one-on-one after rounding Nyland.

In a poor peformance we came up against a Cádiz side fighting for their life

The second half began with Lukebakio being substituted off due to an injury sustained towards the end of the first half, with Suso coming on as his replacement. The team's performance didn't improve against a Cadiz side that repeatedly threatened Nyland's goal without success, with Nyland being our best player of the night.  Alcaraz tried his luck from distance before Badé, in his attempt to clear the ball, scored an own goal midway through the second half. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR.

The game became frantic in the closing minutes as Cadiz desperately searched for a goal. Mariano came on although the clearest chances came with Juanlu finding himself clean through on goal but unable to convert. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, it would prove costly as Sergi Guardiola won it at the death and ultimately condemned us to defeat. We now travel north to Bilbao to face Athletic Club before rounding off the season at home against FC Barcelona.
