Argentina picked up a very important three points overnight as they travelled to neighbours Uruguay. Ángel Di María's early goal in Montevideo put Scaloni's side in front, and they kept a clean sheet which allowed Argentina to seal only their second ever win in a World Cup qualifier in Uruguay. As for the Sevillistas in the squad, Marcos Acuña played the full 90 minutes at left back.
In the second half, Papu Gómez came off the bench, replacing Lautaro Martínez, as the visitors looked for a second goal. Gonzalo Montiel was an unused substitute. Although Uruguay came close to an equaliser, Argentina held on for the win which takes them one step closer to Qatar. In fact, they could mathematically secure qualification on Wednesday with a win against Brazil in Buenos Aires, but that depends on results elsewhere.
