BERIZZO: “I TOLD THEM THEY NEEDED TO PLAY WITH THE SOUL AND PRIDE WE HAVE”

Proud of his players, Eduardo Berizzo spoke the press following his side's epic comeback in the Champions League against Liverpool, a match which he said: "put us to the test when they punished our mistakes. We didn't come out well and football demands a recovery, you can't feel sorry for yourself or let your head drop. At half-time we talked about rectifying, about showing the pride we have, about having to go for the game. We said if we got a goal quickly, it was possible. We generated a positive energy which spurred on our fans and pushed us to the result".

"The team played and experienced an unforgettable and exciting match against an opponent we didn't allow to use their midfield. We showed our competitive streak, that animal that we have inside of us. We took the risk and that says a lot about the bravery of these players", added the manager. 

He later spoke about what he told the team during half-time: "I told them that they had to play with soul, that there wasn't a mistake they couldn't make up for. We had to go out with a different energy and the crowd believed in us, the team went out and went for them and spurred on 50,000 people".
