Eduardo Berizzo was interviewed by the official club media after the conclusion of Sunday's match against Everton in order to assess the mini-tour of England which took place over the weekend. First, the Argentine revealed he was pleased with the improvement seen at Goodison Park following the previous day's defeat: “We can take a lot of positives, we dominated with the ball, we pressed them well. It's a better performance than the previous one. The goal we conceded brought us into the game, but in the majority of situations we were superior, because we dominated the game and we created a lot of chances”.
"We couldn't find the net in the first half, but it was an improvement from Saturday's performance"
Berizzo gave an insight into the opportunities the team generated over the matches: “I liked the first half today. We may not have found the back of the net, but it was an improvement from Saturday's performance. We've got some important days ahead of us. Thursday's match will be our last chance to compete. I didn't like the performance yesterday, where they significantly outpaced us, but after the 15th minute the team showed mobility, taking control of the matches.
The Argentine was asked about the most recent signings, Navas and Kjaer, who he claimed “are far from their best level, but we're getting closer to that. Their performances were good. We also gave more playing time to players who need to be in tune for what's ahead”.
"We have to be sure, and choose the best men"
The Champions League play-off round is looming large on the horizon, and Berizzo was clear on the importance of knowing which players should play in each possible situation when the time comes: “We will have to evaluate everything over the next 10 days. We have to be sure and choose the best men for the job. Although your taste for someone's talent could make selection more favourable towards them, you have to always choose those who are best for the job”. In addition, he gave the percentage he thought his team were working at at this stage of pre-season: “We've settled at 70% and from here we can start to adjust things and improve to put ourselves on the up”.
"Rico and Soria's performances mean I'm pleased with the quality of our goalkeepers"
To conclude, the Sevilla manager congratulated the goalkeepers on their fine performances: “The two performances, Sergio's yesterday and David's today, mean I'm pleased with the quality of our goalkeepers, both are at the top level”.
