In the friendly played at Estadio Algarve against Sporting, Beto was honoured by both teams that he played for during his professional career. After being cheered on the pitch before the game at half time club president, José María del Nido Carrasco and Sporting CP's president, Frederico Varandas presented Beto with two shirts showing the number of games which played for both teams.

After coming through the youth ranks of Sporting Portugal, he arrived in Sevilla for the 2012/13 season. During the 2013/14 campaign, Beto became one of the key players in our run to winning the Europa League. He saved penalties in the shoot-outs against Real Betis in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16, as well as from the spot in the final against Benfica to lift the first of three Europa Leagues in his four seasons with the club.

After finishing his time at Nervión, he would then return to Sporting. After nearly 20 seasons as a professional, in which he made 89 appearances for Sevilla FC and 13 for Sporting de Portugal, the Portuguese goalkeeper hung up his gloves in 2022 after a career in which he won four UEFA Europa Leagues, one UEFA Nations League, one Portuguese league, two Portuguese Cups, one Portuguese league cup, one Portuguese supercup and one Romanian league title.
