Joaquín Caparrós, Sevilla FC's director of football, appeared on COPE to analyse the current state of the Sevilla team: 'We have to be happy with everyone's work and with the fans' happiness. But as professionals, we have to keep our feet on the ground, take one step at a time and continue to build on the project that is being carried out with our manager at the front. Our objective has to be to get into the Champions League, which would progress. We have to be demanding to make this step and to continue making progress in the coming years.'
CAPARRÓS: 'OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO GET INTO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, WHICH WOULD BE PROGRESS'
With regards to the manager Pablo Machín, Caparrós explained that 'we were looking for a manager with some experience in the division, but above all with hunger. We went for Pablo and he's proving us right. He's prepared to lead Sevilla and to fulfil his obligation to work out how to get the most out of the squad that he has at his disposal, He's brought a good technical team with him and they've adapted incredibly well, and they can also count on people who were already here like Marchena and Gallardo who help them day to day.'
'Nowadays every team needs a goalscorer and we definitely have that with Ben Yedder and André Silva'
Sevilla's Director of Football analysed the team's current goalscoring form with Ben Yedder and André Silva up top: 'We were clear in that Ben Yedder had to stay and we informed the manager of that, he had to watch him a little bit more. Nowadays every team needs a goalscorer and we had that with Ben Yedder and we added André Silva to that. Regarding Silva, whether he stays or not depends on us, so if everything goes as it is currently going we will exercise our option to buy.'
'We're preparing for the market as we ought to. We evaluated our work in the summer transfer window in September and began to work on finding new players to improve the team. It's tough work given that we're currently top thanks to the players we have. We will evaluate any possible signings with the manager. If you bring in a lot of new players who aren't sure what the team is doing, you can upset the apple cart and you'll not get anywhere,' explained Caparrós regarding what could happen during the January transfer market.
Finishing up, Joaquín Caparrós commented that two of Sevilla's key players are close to renewing their contract: 'We're in advanced negotiations with Éver and Sarabia and we hope that we'll be able to finalise them soon. These two players give us the quality that we ask for. We also have to sit down and analyse Mercado's situation.'
