The draw for the first round of the Copa del Rey took place at the Estadio de La Cartuja this afternoon. The draw included 112 clubs. The only clubs not included in the draw were the four semi-finalists of the Spanish Super Cup; they enter at the Round of 32, two rounds later.
Sevilla FC knew that their opponent would either be from their region, the Third Division or one of the four semi-finalists of the 2020/21 RFEF Cup who are in Segunda B. The draw, conducted by Hall of Fame member Antonio Álvarez, paired Sevilla with the teams from the Third Division and the RFEF Cup.
Lucena are in the same division as Sevilla C
Julen Lopetegui's team were drawn against CD Ciudad de Lucena, meaning the team will have a short trip to the neighbouring province of Córdoba, only 150 kilometres away. Lucena have a few familiar faces, starting with their managers, brothers Dimas and David Carrasco. They used to manage Sevilla FC Juvenil A in 2017/18. Their players Pablo Gallardo and Víctor Morillo have also experience with the Nervionenses.
The match will take place between 15 and 17 December and will be played at Estadio Ciudad de Lucena. The pitch has artificial grass and has already seen the defeat of Sevilla C in the first match of the season. Lucena are joint-top of the division alongside Puente Genil, with nine points from twelve.
