As well as being the club which has won the second most important UEFA competition, Sevilla FC is considered to be an important club across Europe. Without going any further, the match this Thursday at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán will be the 235th held for the team in Europe. There will be approximately 3,400 Dutch fans, of which 3,100 will be in the away section and another 300 in the Preferencia Stand.

15 games were held here in the 20th century, a time when it was more difficult for fans to travel across the continent to support their side, especially on long trips. This owed to logistical and economic challenges present for fans.

However, as the team has experienced some of its most glorious moments in the last few decades, innumerable European matches in the city have taken place. The most spectacular game was one in which our club did not partake in. We refer, of course, to the great UEFA Europa League final last May between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers, which saw 150,000 fans of these clubs come to the city. This is despite only a third of them actually going to the game. This shows how the growth of Sevilla FC in Europe has brought economic success to the city, with such a big game being held at the stadium because of Sevilla FCs growing status within European football. Millions of other people have come to Seville for other games at the Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Special memories were made from the journeys made by fans of Schalke, Tottenham and Bayern

However, there have also been many games in the city which still hold an important place in the memories of all Sevillistas. In fact, throughout history a total of 88 different teams (PSV Eindhoven will make it 89) from 30 countries, have played against Sevilla FC in Nervión in European competitions. There is so much to say about games like that on the Thursday of Feria where thousands of Schalke 04 fans came to Seville for a historic night for the club that plays in red-and-white. Soon after, the fans of Tottenham were able to watch a game in the Andalusian capital on Easter Thursday.

More recently, even if in one season it was very difficult to travel between countries owing to the spread of Covid-19, there were huge numbers of fans that came to the city from parts of Europe. Fans from Manchester United, Porto, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Zenit St. Petersburg, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Manchester City all got to know the city. There are a number of reasons why people ought to visit Seville, but Sevilla FC has certainly become one of these in the last few decades.
