Marko Dmitrović, Sevilla FC goalkeeper, was Thursday's guest for the 'A Balón Parado' programme, where he spoke about various different things. He started by speaking about the game against Córdoba yesterday, highlighting the importance of the fans: 'The fans yesterday were incredible. They are our twelfth man and we're so lucky to have fans like them, they spur us on and give us the extra push that we may need sometimes.'
DMITROVIĆ: 'I'M AMBITIOUS BUT REALISTIC'
The goalkeeper looked back at the bizarre moment two years ago when he went up to try and score late on and nearly scored against Ocampos, who was in goal at the time as a result of Vaclík's injury: 'It almost happened, but it didn't and that's the end of it. I didn't have the time to hit it like I wanted to. Jordán nearly blocked it before Lucas eventually made a great save due to his good positioning and he'd taken on board what Silva told him to do.'
'We reached an agreement less than a month after Monchi initially called me'
He also spoke about the process of signing for Sevilla FC: 'I had offers, but as a free agent, you have more opportunity to examine properly in terms of the next move and Covid was a contributing factor too. I used to always start at Eibar and I was happy there, but I wanted to take the next step and play in Europe and win every game that the team played. We reached an agreement less than a month after Monchi initially called me. Sevilla was my first-choice option.'
Dmitrović described himself as an 'ambitious person who never gives up, but I am also a realist. I like tennis but of course I know that I'm not going to beat Djokovic because I don't know how to use the racquet properly. There have been many hurdles along the way but I have always had confidence in myself. There were tough times when I left home, but when I arrived at Alcorcón, I started to enjoy my football because that's where it started for me.'
'Jesús Navas is the perfect example of a great professional and person who still wants to train even at his age.'
He concluded by heaping the praise on the captain, Jesús Navas: 'He is so fit that you can see him playing for ten more years. He's a great professional and person. He always wants to train and at his age, it's incredible how he takes care of himself. He's never missed a training session except for an injury, and he's just a fantastic example of a true footballer.'
He added that the intensity of playing for Sevilla is different to his previous clubs: 'Sevilla has a lot of quality. There's a world of difference between Eibar and Sevilla in terms of the quality of the footballers, decision making, you don't have as much time on the ball here...everything is two or three gears different to the teams I've played in before.'
