Although last night's victory would not have been possible without the performance of the whole squad, the player who enjoyed the most success in this victory was Youssef En-Nesyri, who caused the second own goal in Manchester and scored two of our three goals in the return leg. A double that also meant the Moroccan international climbed up the goalscoring rankings and wrote his name in our Club's history.
His most recent two goals now makes him the top scorer in the current squad, as he had been stuck on 49 goals, level with Rakitic. His 51 goals now also puts him amongst the ten highest goalscorers in the Club's history who are not Spanish. Frederic Kanouté leads this list with 136 goals, followed by Luis Fabiano who has 107. Next on the list appear Suker (90), Baby Acosta (84), Ben Yedder (70), Gameiro (67), Scotta (67), Diéguez (67) Polster (57) and after last night, Youssef En-Nesyri. Including Spanish players, En-Nesyri is now our 23rd highest goalscorer, now with more than Ramón Vázquez and Baptista, who both have 50.
The striker's form in the last few months has been spectacular. Following the resumption of the competition after the World Cup in Qatar, he has scored 14 goals in 2023, with only two before the World Cup, both scored in the Champions League.
