Sevilla FC President, José Castro, addressed the media at the San Fernando Cemetery having carried out a floral offering to their ex-president Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of his death. The President began by emphasising that the 'on a day like this, which is dedicated to Sánchez-Pizjuán, who himself said that 'Sevilla is not you, nor me, nor him or her...' we should remember the core values of our club. I am delighted with the support for the club's management, which highlights the hard work that we've done, and normally in an AGM, we would be talking about the football season and our success, but legal issues haven taken precedence this time unfortunately. A big thank you must be given to all shareholders who have trusted in us and have ensured that the club will remain in safe hands for years to come. I ask you all not to sell your shares in case someone tries to fool you and tell you they are worth nothing after this meeting. They might be worth the same or even more. However, the most important thing is the sentimental value of the club which ensures that there is no majority for anyone, and the club is always in the hands of Sevillistas. The only way of continuing with this is by not selling shares.'
JOSÉ CASTRO: 'THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT THE MANAGEMENT IS ALWAYS IN THE HANDS OF SEVILLISTAS'
'I do not want to create any tension, if anything, I want peace, and that's why the club continues to grow today. I do not care what Del Nido is doing. It's a shame that this is happening, but we're clear in our minds that we will abide by the law and stick to what we signed. We have signed it for a reason,' he continued.
'A positive thing that came out of the AGM was that people understand that stability is the most important thing to continue to grow'
José Castro stated categorically that 'the reality is that Del Nido did not vote because he didn't want to. He saw the amount of shares which were a lot higher than what he thought, and this is thanks to the Sevillistas who have helped us to fight against this barbarity. He simply did not vote because he did not want to. He had the opportunity to vote on every point except the sixth because the minority law did not allow him to do so.'
'Currently, things don't look good. Everything that we've created in the past 20 years hangs in the balance. We have to think about the positives, that this has been called-off and that people understand that stability is the most important thing in order to continue developing. There is no motive or reason for it to be otherwise. The club is growing in every aspect and is doing well, we're up there with the best. He said he was going to return in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020,2021...but we're still here fighting for our club.'
'The majority of people do not want things to change and want Sevillistas to remain in charge of the club'
The president thanked the shareholders for their confidence: 'In the past two months, I have spoken with several Sevillistas shareholders who continue to support our management. It would take a lot for them to sell their shares - something that they've told me themselves. We need to be independent. I think they will stick to their words in this sense, but of course, some might sell because they need to. The majority of people do not want to see change. The AGM is over now, and we need to give it our everything to continue managing the club in the way that we have in recent years. What's happened has happened.'
On a football level, José Castro said that 'So far, we are having a good season. We're hungry for success and giving it our all in order to achieve some great things together. Football cannot be stopped, we are in a good moment and we can enjoy working for a club that is constantly growing, and which has a budget of more than 200 million. We can't think about anything else other than working to continue growing as a club and ensuring that we can create something special together.'
'Of course we are disappointed with the disallowed goal which should've been allowed, but we need to look ahead now.'
On the game against Mallorca, Castro expressed his disappointment: 'We are all disappointed with that decision, myself included. I think it is a clear error and the decision was made in a rush. Having said this, despite our frustration at this disallowed goal, we have to think about making up for those two dropped points as soon as possible. Osasuna will be our next challenge. At the end of the day, referees are human beings who sometimes make mistakes and sometimes are our heroes. As disappointed as we are, we need to look ahead now to the next game and not dwell. There are still a lot of points up for grab in complicated games and there are still probably a few bumps in the road to come. We need to keep fighting.'
The president also touched upon the upcoming derby: 'We need leaders in the derby against Betis. I've said several times before that Sevilla is the most football-loving city in Spain, potentially the world. There are several thousands of different supporters in just the one city. It is not a surprise that these two big teams are up there competing. At the end of the day, this is good for the city and for the clubs within Sevilla.'
'When we will have been in the UCL for several years, we will have more experience and be ready for more. If it happens sooner, even better. We will give it our all.'
José Castro stressed the importance of Champions League qualification year after year: 'Our aim is to be in the Champions League, we will never settle for anything less than this. Competing in the competition year after year will allow us to have more experience. If this happens sooner, even better. We will give it our all. Ambition is in our blood. And actions speak louder than words: we will not sell players, we have a wonderful squad. We are on track to achieving our ambitions, and LaLiga is one of them.'
He concluded by speaking about LaLiga: 'Without a doubt, it is great to see teams like ourselves or Real Sociedad competing at the top of LaLiga. I hope that one of us will be champions at the end of the season. Currently, we don't have any updates regarding tickets for the derby, but at the moment, that is not the priority. Our next match is against Osasuna - a game in which we need to play our style of football so that we can remain at the top where Sevillistas deserve to be.'
