Erik Lamela has been named as one of the three finalists for the FIFA Puskas Award 2021, the prize for best goal of the year. The Argentine was nominated alongside various players in November, and now he has been confirmed as one of the finalists, alongside Czech player Patrik Schick, of Bayer Leverkusen, and the Iranian Mehdi Taremi, of FC Porto. Lamela scored the goal on 14th March in a North London Derby, opening the scoring for Tottenham away at Arsenal with an audacious rabona. The goal has been included in the top 3 thanks to a public vote.

Schick scored his goal during UEFA EURO 2020 back in June. The Leverkusen attacker opened the scoring for the Czech Republic against Scotland at Hampden Park, with his shot from the halfway line beating David Marshall as the Czechs won 2-0 in Glasgow. Strangely enough, Taremi's goal was scored at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. However, this was the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final between FC Porto and Chelsea, with both legs played at our stadium due to the pandemic. Taremi's stunning 93rd minute overhead kick gave the Portuguese side a 1-0 win in the second leg, but Chelsea progressed on aggregate. The successor to the 2020 winner, Son Heung-Min, will be announced on 17th January in Zurich, Switzerland.
