MACHÍN: ‘WE SAW A SIGN OF IDENTITY WHICH MADE US SUPERIOR´

Pablo Machín, Sevilla’s manager, was delighted after the game and the 3 points won today on the first day of the season. ‘A picture is worth a thousand words and today we saw a sign of identity which made us superior. We mustn’t get carried away with the brilliant victory, we have to analyse everything and not think that we've solved all of our problems; let’s keep our feet on the ground.’

Asked about Sevilla’s style of play, the Spaniard responded, ‘I know that my system is going to work here because the players have the necessary qualities. They quickly take in everything I ask of them because they are very good, even though what I want requires a lot of effort; we have to push ourselves to the limit.’ 

Machín spoke about the words he had with André Silva, the key player tonight: ‘We told André that if he worked hard he would get opportunities because the system is made for players like him. He played his part today and that makes it a lot easier for things to go like they went for him today.’

Finally, Sevilla’s manager spoke about the crucial match against Sigma Olomouc on Thursday: ‘We have an incredibly important match on Thursday, there is no margin for error as a place in the group stage is at stake.’
