After Suso's official presentation, Monchi took time to answer questions on last night's shock defeat in the cup in Miranda de Ebro: "It's a massive dent in what we are trying to do. We have grown and improved because of our ambition. Yesterday's result is a stain in the recent history of the club, and it's something we're not going to forget about. We all have to take responsibility. There's no use in saying 'we have to look forward now', because it's a shocking defeat in an important competition. We must acknowledge this and have a look at ourselves. Life goes on, but it's a massive blow. We have never got complacent and we know, ourselves, the ambitions that we have".
MONCHI: "IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN'T EASILY FORGET ABOUT"
"I don't want to repeat the famous saying that we didn't turn up to play. They took everything they had last night. They beat us fair and square on the football pitch. We have to reassess and look towards the next game. However, yesterday was a stain on the club. For everyone connected with Sevilla FC, Anduva will always be a bad memory".
"If we want to be a great side, we can't say that by winning La Liga or the Europa League, it will cover up the defeat to Mirandés"
Monchi continued: "On the sporting side of things, what happened yesterday was awful; but I'm sure that if it was any other defeat, we'd all be equally as angry. Because of how big this club has become recently, every defeat is a crisis. We aspire to be the best and if we have improved and grown, it's because we haven't rested on our laurels. If we want to be a great side, we can't say that by winning La Liga or the Europa League, it will cover up the defeat to Mirandés. This can't happen. Nothing is going to change anything about yesterday's result. It was very tough to take. In our way of being, that is leaders and Sevillistas, every defeat is tough to take".
"Julen was majorly disappointed, like everyone else. He's a great professional who gives a lot to his job, but there was no other option for him to be as disappointed as us yesterday".
"They beat us all over the pitch. We have to look at this so that it doesn't happen again"
Monchi rounded it off by saying: "They beat us because they were better all over pitch and in every aspect of the game; and not because we didn't turn up. There's no need to look for more explanations. They were much better than us, and we have to look at this so that it doesn't happen again. It's our obligation to do so".
