The 202/21 Copa del Rey begins. On Thursday at 16:30 the draw for the first round will take place at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas. 112 teams will be involved, all of the contenders except for the four participants in the Spanish Super Cup. Sevilla FC therefore will start their cup adventure with 46 possible opponents in a one-off match which will take place away from home next Wednesday on December 1st.
The new element of this edition, the third with this format, is that the pots in which the teams are divided into change, as does the distribution of rankings. Specifically, in Pool 1 there will be 16 teams from La Liga Santander who will enter. In Pool 2, the 21 participants from La Liga Smartbank will enter, given that the Real Sociedad B team are not allowed to participate. In Pool 3, the 29 contenders from the Primera RFEF Footters and in Pot 4 a total of 32 teams from the Segunda RFEF. In Pot 5 there will be the four semi-finalists from the RFEF Copa and in Pot 6 the 10 survivors from the preliminary round, in which 20 regional teams battled it out.
The 46 possible opponents for Sevilla are made up of the 10 regional teams, the four from the RFEF Copa and the 32 from the Segunda RFEF. In the draw first the ten regional teams will be paired with 10 from the first division. Then the remaining six from the first division will be drawn with the four from the RFEF Cup and two from the Segunda RFEF. With all of the first division sides draw, then the 21 La Liga Smartbank teams with be drawn with the others from the Segunda RFEF, while the last nine teams from the Segunda RFEF will face nine from the Primera RFEF Footers.

Lastly, the 20 teams that remain to be drawn from the Primera RFEF will play against each other in 10 elimination matches. These are the only ties in which geography will influence the draw. In all the other ties the lowest-ranked team will be at home. This is the composition of the six pools:
