JOSÉ CASTRO: "SERGIO SHOWED COMMITMENT TO THE COLOURS THAT HE HAS MADE HIS OWN FOREVER"

The President highlighted the full back's role at the club, both on and off the pitch

Club President José Castro also wanted to pay tribute to Sergio Escudero on such an important day as today. The President dedicated some heartfelt words to the man from Valladolid:

"Today we opened an executive lounge of the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán to bid farewell to Sergio Escudero. Six seasons, 176 appearances, two UEFA Europa Leagues... but, above all, a great captain. Captain in capital letters. Captain in the good times and captain in the bad times. As President, I have always admired players who stand up for themselves when things aren't going well, who don't give up when the going gets tough, who grow in the face of adversity. Sergio is one of those players. And that's something a President is always grateful for". 

"It is time to say goodbye, therefore, to an undisputed leader of Sevilla FC over the last five years, a true role model. And that's not easy, because we feel that with this farewell an important piece of our history is leaving us. On days like these, it is time to say thank you. Today we say thank you, Sergio. A resounding thank you. Thank you for many things. Thank you for having been a role model from the first day you arrived. Thank you for having always defended this badge of honour and courage. Thank you for having understood from day one the idiosyncrasy of our club: never giving up, always going for more. Thank you for your football, for those thunderbolts with which you scored great goals".

"Thank you for that unforgettable final in Basel, for epic matches such as the match against Liverpool and the match at Old Trafford, for your total commitment on the pitch. Always going for it, whatever the cost. There's your medical report... Thank you for always being there no matter what role you had to play. And that is not always easy, not easy at all. But you have always been a gentleman. And of course, thank you for your leadership in times of pandemic so that the club and the first team could reach a fundamental agreement for the financial viability of this institution. Sergio's work and merit on the pitch is great, but his contribution off the pitch is even greater".

"Today we are losing a person who is much more than a footballer for this club, because as captain he has always been there for everything we needed him for. One of those players that any fan should identify with is leaving. As they say, a club man is leaving. Because Sergio is dedication, solidarity, effort, courage and, above all, showed commitment to the colours he has made his own for life. The player is leaving, but his legacy remains, because your achievements are here, right here, with these two marvellous titles. Your legacy remains and the memory of you as a true footballer, a committed captain and a player dedicated to our cause. Sergio, good luck in your new professional career. Don't doubt it, your successes will always be our successes. And of course, Sevilla FC will always be your home".
