Sampaoli's side create their best winning run at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán since October 2021

Sevilla FC has found its feet again at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, and in some style too. Jorge Sampaoli's men, who beat RCD Mallorca at home on Saturday, reaffirmed the stadium's status as a fortress with the side having won their last four league games at home. This has not happened since October 2021, when the team managed to string together seven successive victories between the end of the 2020/21 season and the start of the 2021/22 season. During that run, the side claimed three points against Valencia CF and Deportivo Alavés at the end of the season, and were then victorious in the first five home games of the following season against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia CF, RCD Espanyol, Levante UD and CA Osasuna.

Moreover, the victory against RCD Mallorca on Saturday was another important moment and our Argentinian manager noted how the side has regained its strong defensive record which has always been associated with the club, playing at a fortress which was helped the team keep a clean sheet in the last 270 minutes of LaLiga football played at the stadium. After having conceded in the final minutes of the clash against Getafe CF, the fixture which marked the start of this remarkable winning run, neither Cádiz CF, Elche CF nor RCD Mallorca have been able to score past a goalkeeper nominated for FIFAs The Best Goalkeeper award this year.

Interestingly enough, the last time the side kept three successive clean sheets at home was also in 2021. After beating Valencia and Alavés 1-0 in the last two league games of the 2020/21 season, the team opened the 2021/222 campaign scoring three against Rayo, and not conceding one. Although that team went on to win another four consecutive games, the 3-1 victory over Valencia resulted in the end of this clean sheet streak.

With that all said, as we wait to see the team try to bring this winning streak into Europe, it is CA Osasuna who will next visit our fortress in the league on the last Sunday of the month. The team will try to keep up their impressive winning record at home, which will be crucial if we are to keep on moving up the table in the second half of the season. Our visitors from Pamplona were the seventh team we beat on that run in 2021.
