AS Roma, who fought Juventus for the Scudetto in the recently concluded Serie A season, will be Sevilla FC's opponents on 10 August in the 9th Antonio Puerta Trophy. Sevilla FC will, therefore, be lining up against high flying opposition, this year's Serie A runners up no less, just one week before the Champions League play-off.
The Antonio Puerta Trophy, will be returning to its usual time of the year, August, after it took place in autumn last season, against Boca Juniors, due to building work being carried out in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
The match, as well as being an excellent test for Sevilla FC ahead of the Champions League play-off, will have the added attraction of a team with two ex-Sevilla players, Argentines Fazio and Perotti, both of whom have been key for Roma in achieving their aim of direct qualification for Europe's top club competition.
The match will also see a return to the Sánchez-Pizjuán for Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi, former Sevilla FC sporting director and current sporting director at Roma. Once the Italian side had secured direct qualification for the Champions League, Monchi did everything possible to facilitate his current team's participation in the tournament played in memory of the legendary Antonio Puerta.
