On Sunday night against Real Valladolid, Sevilla FC won their eighth game of the 2019/20 season. Of these wins, Banega's penalty made sure of the fifth win away from the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán this season, after triumphs against RCD Espanyol, Granada CF, Deportivo Alavés and Real Betis. This makes them the team with the best away record in the league up until now. In addition, Sevilla have played eight games away from home, something only Real Sociedad and, last night's opponents Real Valladolid, have also done.
Therefore, with only fourteen games gone in the season, the five away wins have allowed Lopetegui's Sevilla to equal last season's record of away wins. Whereas, this season as they achieve that feat after only 14 games, last season it wasn't until Matchday 31 that they did so. Likewise, as we cast our minds back in time, during the 2016/17 season under Sampaoli, Sevilla won 7 away matches; just like they did in 2013/14 under Unai Emery and in 2010/11 under Antonio Álvarez and Gregorio Manzano.
Sevilla have already surpassed the number of away wins that they managed in three of the last ten seasons
Under Berizzo, Montella and Caparrós in 2017/18, they finished with six away wins. In the 2011/12 season, they won 4 times away from home whilst in 2012/13, they only won once. During the 2015/16 season, they didn't manage a single away win all season in the league. Sevilla did, however, manage nine away wins in both the 2009/10 and 2014/15 seasons. This seasons, with five away wins in eight matches, it reads well in comparison with their record in the 2009/10 (four wins after eight) and 2014/15 (five wins after eight) seasons.
Overall, it is without doubt an attractive and impressive statistic that Sevilla have away from the Sánchez-Pizjuán this year. After the away trip to Osasuna on Sunday 8th December, the team from Nervión will have played almost half of all their away fixtures for the season.
