SEVILLA FC, THE TEAM WITH THE FOURTH-HIGHEST WIN PERCENTAGE IN EUROPE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

After the LaLiga season came to a close ten days ago, Sevilla FC will be back in action on Thursday 6th August against AS Roma in Duisburg, in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. Sevilla, who progressed to this round after knocking out CFR Cluj in the Round of 32, will face the Italians in a one-legged tie, after the matches were postponed due to the pandemic.

With Europe around the corner, the Blanquirrojos will go into the match against the side from the Italian capital with very good numbers on both an attacking and a defensive level, as well as achieving a truly commendable statistic: the team with the fourth-highest win percentage in European matches in the 21st century. With wins in 55.63% of their matches, Sevilla FC only trail FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and are ahead of some big European teams such as Manchester United, Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea.

Sevilla FC have won 84 of their 151 European matches in the 21st century

Going into more detail, the Nervionenses have played 151 matches in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in the 21st century. The numbers, particularly in the latter tournament, which Sevilla FC have dominated, lifting the trophy in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016, show a strong team, winning 84 of their 151 matches, boosted by eleven wins in both 13/14 and 14/15. 

In a historic and strange season, Sevilla FC are back in a week and will be playing in their favourite tournament, and they will go into it with strong numbers. They can improve on these numbers from next Thursday against the Italians, and could well do so in the three rounds after, as the Nervionenses go for their final aim of the season. In 2020/21, Julen Lopetegui's men will look to keep improving on these hugely positive numbers in the Champions League.
