One effect of the pandemic is that there will be less games played this season. Although LaLiga was eventually completed and the Copa del Rey has just the big final to go, the continental competitions had to shorten their format, meaning a lower number of matches. Either way, Sevilla FC have played 50 matches so far this season and will finish with a number between 51 and 54, dependent on their performance in the UEFA Europa League.
A half-century of matches that, with just the final sprint to go, allow us to reflect on the season so far based on the statistics. The most obvious statistic is the number of matches played. Jesús Navas and Joan Jordán have featured more often than anyone else, with 43 matches each. The top 5 is completed by Luuk de Jong (42), Diego Carlos (41) and Lucas Ocampos (40).
Navas leads the way in matches, minutes and assists
Of course, Navas leads the way in minutes played too, with 3,789. Diego Carlos, with 3,605, and Tomas Vaclík, with 3,285, are in second and third place respectively. Lucas Ocampos is just behind with 3,267 minutes, while Fernando is in fifth place with 2,956. Regarding inclusions in the squad, Jules Koundé has been selected on 47 occasions, one more than second-placed Gudelj. With just five absences, De Jong, Diego Carlos and Reguilón are just behind.
More numbers. Ocampos is the top goalscorer with 16, followed by Munir with 10 and De Jong with seven. Franco Vázquez and Óliver Torres round off the top five with six goals each. Jesús Navas and Éver Banega are neck and neck at the top of the assists table, with eight apiece. Óliver Torres has five, while De Jong, Reguilón, Ocampos and Munir have four.
