Our cup run does not stop here! A 3-1 win against Getafe sees us progress to the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey. We took an early lead when Ramos headed home from Suso's corner but were pegged back before the break. However, two Isaac Romero strikes early into the second half proved enough to secure an important victory at the Coliseum.
The game could not have started better for us. In the eighth minute, Suso's corner from the right was met by Ramos, who headed into an empty net. Getafe keeper David Soria came for the cross, but failed to gather, leaving our captain with the simplest of finishes. But the hosts responded well and equalised through Mata in the 23rd minute. Greenwood's long-ball was flicked into the box by Ramos before Mata chipped over Alberto Flores, who replaced Dmitrovic in the starting lineup last minute.
An Isaac brace in the second half put the game beyond Getafe
We were only halfway through the first period and both teams had already scored, a frenetic opening spell that soon gave way to sustained Getafe pressure. However, the home side struggled to trouble our keeper, Alberto Flores, who was assured on debut. Despite this, at times we looked too focused on not committing errors at the back, leading to a lack of offensive threat and giving the hosts the initiative. For the second half, our head coach brought on Navas for Juanlu and we struck again early. A long ball from Nianzou to Ocampos saw the Argentine stand a beautiful cross up to the far post where Isaac, in just his second game for his boyhood club, seemed to hang in the air for an eternity as he lept superbly to bury a header. Seven minutes later we had a third to put daylight between ourselves and Getafe; another great counterattack through Ocampos, this time popping up on the left flank, was dispatched brilliantly as the Argentine squared for the tireless Sow, the Swiss then setting up Isaac to fire under David Soria for his second of the night.
Getafe tried to claw their way back, but we played sme intelligent football, keeping defensively disciplined and continuing to hit the opposition on the counter-attack. Ocampos let rip a brilliant shot from outside the box to round off his brilliant performance. Milla responded with a shot that went just wide of the post as the home side searched for a goal, but Alberto Flores held his own in goal. Agoumé also made his debut off the bench to help prevent any fightback and secure a huge win. We now move forward to the quarter finals, for which the draw will be made on Friday at 13:00 CET to see who we face at the next stage on our cup journey.
