It was a stunning display from start to finish in Valladolid. Two goals in both halves saw us cruise to a 4-0 victory against a Real Valladolid side who are in serious danger of relegation. Juanlu gave us the lead within the first five minutes and Isaac Romero scored a beauty on the cusp of half time. In the second half, Juanlu scored his second before Dodi Lukébakio put the cherry on top of the cake late on.
We started the game on the front foot, pressing high up the field and taking control of possession. Juanlu's early strike gave us the perfect start; his deflected effort found the back of the net following Rúben Vargas' cross from the left-hand side. Ørjan Nyland was barely called into the action as the half wore on and Juanlu came closest to doubling our lead. His powerful shot was tipped onto the post by Valladolid keeper Karl Hein. On the half-hour mark, Lukébakio had a decent chance, but he could not guide his effort on target.
The home side's only real chance of the first half came through Juanmi Latasa, although his header flew just wide. This miss proved costly as Isaac doubled our lead on the stroke of half time. Juanlu found Isaac, who unleashed a beautiful, curling shot into the top-left corner, leaving no chance for Hein. A real moment of quality solidified a deserved first-half lead.
After the break, we looked to continue where we had left off. Vargas came close with a right-footed effort that whistled over the bar. In the 67th minute, a third goal arrived, although not without some controversy. Referee Javier Alberola waved away the home side's appeals for a penalty only moments before Juanlu found the back of the net for the second time of the afternoon. Following a quick counter attack, Lukébakio showed composure to pick the right pass, playing in Juanlu, who slotted the ball past Hein.
With the three points already in the bag, Lukébakio got in on the action, adding our fourth. Chidera Ejuke, who came on as a substitute, played in the Belgian, who drilled a low effort into the bottom corner for his tenth league goal of the season. It was a truly impressive performance that sees us pick up three valuable points in our quest for the European places. Next up is a home match against RCD Mallorca on Monday 24 February. The match will kick off at 21:00 CET at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
