Quique Sánchez Flores was disappointed with many aspects of our defeat in Girona: "We got it wrong. The opening ten minutes were great, plenty of intensity and pressing high up the pitch, but ultimately the line of four midfield players may have not been the best idea. We let the game become far too open, pressing high but not necessarily winning the ball left us vulnerable at the back. They have plenty of quick players who are direct and were able to exploit the empty space between our defence and our midfield. I think we got the tactics wrong, we needed to be tighter defensively. Having taken the lead, we needed to control the ball and the flow of the game."
"It is a painful one to take. We apologise to the fans, especially those that made the long journey. We are Sevilla and tonight we weren't good enough, albeit against a great team in fantastic form. They did everything well, playing with fluidity and speed. They are the best side that I've seen this season. But we let them play their game and control the game."
Looking forward, our head coach stressed the importance of putting things right with Thursday's cup match: "Three or four days ago we would not have expected such a heavy defeat, but also seven or eight days ago we might not have expected such a good performance against Getafe. This is the nature of football, you can have some good days and some bad days in very quick succession. We will review what went wrong today and build a plan for Thursday so that we can be competitive and hopefully get the desired result."
