Víctor Orta was present for the unveiling of Diego Alonso. Our sporting director, who appeared alongside our new head coach, indicated that the Uruguayan was always the first option: "We have processes, in the same way as we do with players. We always have a shortlist of top choices, and here is our first choice. It was a long interview. We wanted to back up our decision with facts. His ambition and desire to come to Sevilla became apparent very quickly. He even travelled at five in the morning. I'm proud of the process and the board of directors have full confidence."
Talking about the decision to sack Mendilibar, he explained that "in football, the most important factor is the results. We assessed the situation and it was decided that a new head coach was needed. The coaching team weren't the only ones to blame, the players are responsible and so am I. There is always a decision to make, when that decision is to appoint a new head coach, we must all take responsibility."

I remember when he took charge of Bellavista and managed to save them from relegation. It was at that point I started to follow him. I started asking around about him, and it became obvious that one day he would became our head coach, and that day is today."
Orta finished by saying "we are searching for better results. You always plan to win, but sometimes you must try something different. We hope that this route will help us accumulate more points and reach the goals set by the club. No two coaches are the same. When you want to change, you must change the philosophy."
