5-2: ATHLETIC TAKES THE POINTS IN THE CLOSING MATCH OF 2024 IN LIGA F

Sevilla FC Women closes out 2024 with a tough home defeat against Athletic Club (4-1). David Losada's team, who struggled almost from the start, saw the opponent's effectiveness come into play early on, something that ultimately proved decisive for the final outcome of the match.

In the first half, the exchange of a series of attacks favored the visiting team from the start. With barely any time to settle into the game, Pinedo unleashed a long-range shot to beat Sullastres just two minutes in. Sevilla's response came quickly, though, as Raquel equalized in the fifth minute. Despite the home team dominating possession, David Aznar's side found themselves more comfortable when it came to creating chances on goal. Amezaga restored the lead for the visiting team from the penalty spot in the 15th minute, and before the half-hour mark, Vilariño extended the advantage with a third goal.

The third goal by Athletic was a significant blow heading into the final stretch of the first half, and shortly after the break, following several timid attempts from the home side, Jone Amezaga completed her brace in a one-on-one against goalkeeper Esther Sullastres, who could do little on this occasion. Sara Ortega also joined the visitors' goal-scoring spree with a fifth goal. Nevertheless, the Sevilla team once again showed, despite the weight of the scoreline, that they never give up, as evidenced by another beautifully crafted goal from Raquel past the hour mark.

The scoreboard saw no further changes, despite the home side refusing to give up on a very cold night. A painful defeat to close out 2024 in terms of Liga F, but now the team looks forward with hope to the Copa de la Reina, which kicks off next weekend at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes against a growing Granada CF.
