GARCÍA PIMIENTA: "WE WEREN'T CLINICAL ENOUGH"

Head coach García Pimienta spoke after the draw against RCD Espanyol: “I think we had enough chances to score more goals and get the win. We couldn't quite get it but the team tried. We outplayed Espanyol. I don't remember them having a lot of chances and we controlled the game for large parts. We were able to equalise after going a goal down. We hit the woodwork a couple of times and their goalkeeper made a number of great saves. I'm happy but need to be more clinical. We weren't clinical enough today." 

He also spoke about Badé's disallowed goal: “The VAR has to help and the referee was very close. When the VAR is used it's because the VAR referee sees something strange. It is true that Badé is pushed and it's a natural reaction for him to push into the player in front of him. The on-pitch referee awarded a goal and didn't hesitate. It's difficult to understand." On the second half improvement: “In the second half it was difficult for them to last 90 minutes due to tiredness. In the first half we had two clear chances that hit the post, one could have gone in. If you go in at half-time level the dynamic changes. We kept trying. The disallowed goal, their goalkeeper was very good, Ejuke's shots from outside the area. We were able to control the game and not suffer in the second half, where they didn't get near our goal. Espanyol played very well defensively." 

Finally, García Pimienta commented on having substituted Vargas due to fatigue: “It was simply fatigue. I understand that it's nothing more than fatigue. He is training well but he is getting up to match speed. He is starting games and doing well."
