Sevilla FC Women has been eliminated by Granada CF in the Round of 16 of the Copa de la Reina (2-4). Despite the result, David Losada's team was far from inferior to their opponents during the match but faced the challenge of Arturo Ruiz's side, who made the most of their limited chances.
In the first half, Sevilla FC Women showed solid organization, but after an initial period of dominance, Isa Álvarez scored following a controversial foul by Alba López at the edge of Sullastres' penalty area. That goal gave Granada a boost, though the visitors applied significant pressure up front, which led to Alba Cerrato's goal in the 39th minute. The striker unleashed a powerful shot from the left flank that left Sandra Estévez with no chance.
When it came time to step up, Laura Pérez proved decisive with her powerful strikes
Unfortunately, as had happened weeks ago in the league match, Edna appeared in the closing moments of the first half to score the second goal after a play inside the box. Coming out of the locker room, Sevilla pushed hard to find the equalizer, with Losada making a triple substitution by bringing on Padilla Bidas, Millaray Cortés, and Lucía Moral. However, shortly after those changes, Granada scored their third goal-a stunning effort from Laura Pérez. The same player struck again just six minutes later with another powerful shot that captain Esther Sullastres couldn’t stop.
With barely any time to catch their breath and after another excellent save by Sullastres, she launched a counterattack that Gemma Gili managed well, setting up Natalia Padilla Bidas. From the left flank, Padilla Bidas delivered a ball to Lucía Moral, who made no mistake in finding the back of Sandra’s net to narrow the scoreline. Unfortunately, despite their final efforts, the score didn’t change further, and Sevilla FC Women was eliminated from the Copa de la Reina. The team now shifts its focus to the Christmas break to recharge and return stronger, preparing for their first league match of 2024 against SD Eibar in Ipurúa, scheduled for January 11.
