As announced last month when the team visited Pamplona to play CA Osasuna, Sevilla FC will admit legend, Juan Carlos Unzué, to the Hall Of Fame this Wednesday. The Hall Of Fame was inaugurated back in 2009 with the unforgettable Juan Arza as the first to enter and receive the biggest honour any ex Sevilla player can attain. Along with Arza, winners include Busto, Campanal, Achucarro, Valero, Gallero, Lora, Sanjosé, Álvarez, Montero and Blanco, in chronological order.
The club deems Juan Carlos a worthy candidate for the prestigious award, both for his sporting achievements as well as his fight against motor neurone disease, a disease ,he announced in June 2020, that he suffers from. The presentation will start at 12:30 at the Antepalco in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán where the ex Sevilla goalkeeper will be accompanied by Sevilla royalty in the form of the other Hall of Famers and a wide institutional representation from the clubs he has played for, as well as Unzué's colleagues in his profession as a goalkeeper. And, of course, during the gala there will be unexpected highlights that will undoubtedly fill everyone who attends with emotion and joy.
257 games as a Sevilla player, with only Busto and Palop with more, and 99 victories
Unzué registered 257 official games as a Sevilla player (only Hall of Famer José María Busto and Andrés Palop have more) as well as 99 victories. He is the Sevilla goalkeeper with the second most minutes played in the league with 19,947 in total. Only four goalkeepers have more than seven seasons at the club: Palop, Mut, Manolín Torres and Busto. In addition, out of all the LaLiga 20 teams that competed in the seasons 1991/92, 1992/93 and 1994/95, Unzué is the only goalkeeper to have played every league game. His number of goals conceded on average is 1.24 per game. This number is the tenth best ratio among those who have played ten or more matches.
The presentation can be watched live through the official Sevilla FC social platforms such as, Sevilla FC Television, the Sevilla FC YouTube channel, Facebook and Sevilla FC Radio where a special programme will be broadcasted from 12:30 PM to 15:00 PM from the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
