If May is characterised by a series of very happy anniversaries, the change to June can't avoid a mark of sadness for all Sevilla fans. The 1st June is always remembered as the day on which José Antonio Reyes, one of the great gems in Sevilla academy's history, unexpectedly passed away after a car accident. As is customary since that tragic day in 2019, Sevilla have wanted to remember the man from Utrera in his exact home town.
First thing this morning the president of the club José Castro and the father of the player Francisco Reyes went to the municipal cemetery. There, with the inevitable emotion, Castro placed a floral offering next to the tomb of Reyes. Father Indalecio, the chaplain of Sevilla FC, offered a prayer in his memory.
After the tributes carried out in these years with clubs that the man from Utrera also played for, such as Extremadura, Espanyol and Córdoba, this pre-season another remembrance ceremony will be carried out with Arsenal FC at the Emirate Cup in London on 30th July.
