GUEYE: "I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT MY STYLE OF PLAY WOULD SUIT SPANISH FOOTBALL"

Pape Gueye arrived yesterday for his presentation as a Sevilla FC player, as did Bryan Gill. The Senegalese midfielder first wished to "thank all of the staff and the players for the warm reception they have given me. Everyone at the club has welcomed me here. I knew Sampaoli at Marseille, where we had a great season and qualified for the Champions League. Hence, we know each other and I know his coaching staff too. I am very happy to be here, I am excited to play and tomorrow I will train with my teammates for the first time."

He added that he doesn't think it will be too difficult to adopt to how the game is played in Spain: "I am a central midfielder, and quite an aggressive one. The gaffer called me, he knows my abilities and what I can bring to the team. I am also a technical player and when I was younger I was told that my style of play would fit in well here. I have already seen this to be the case when I watched training this morning, which was intense and featured very good players. I can't wait to play and help the team get back to its best".  

He is still young, but he is considered to be an experienced player and one who will do well under the manager: "With Sampaoli, I improved as a player. I played a lot under him and then a new coach came who had different ideas which I had to respect. In the World Cup, Senegal did very well. I am young but I am experienced and I have won the Africa Cup of Nations. I hope to keep on playing and getting better. It's a good move for me to come to this big club."

Coming to Sevilla is an opportunity for him: "Sevilla is a great club, I already knew that before I came here. It is one of the five best clubs in Spain and I never doubted about whether joining the club would be the right decision when the President and Monchi called me. It is a great opportunity for me and we all know about the trophies that the club has won. I saw them all in the museum and I have seen the last few games. I just want to keep on learning next to great players and I hope it all goes well. I have spoken with many of the players, and this morning they welcomed me both on and off of the pitch. Fernando is a talisman for this team and I have followed him since he was at Manchester City. I think that he will help me a lot, I am going to learn a lot from him and the advice that he will give me."

Making friends in the dressing room will not be a problem for our new signing: "There are many Frenchmen in the team and that will help me. However, I want to be speaking Spanish in four weeks. It is good to be surrounded by French, but everyone has been nice to me. Badé is a good friend of mine. For a few years I was his captain and today he is the one who welcomes me here."
