ÖRJAN NYLAND SIGNS FOR THE CLUB

Sevilla FC can confirm the signing of goalkeeper Örjan Nyland on a free transfer.

The Norwegian has been capped 46 times by his country and signs for the club after his contract with RB Leipzig expired.

His career began in the youth ranks at Mork IL and Volda TI, before signing for Norwegian second-tier side IL Hødd aged 17, making three appearances in the latter stages of the 2008 season. After two years without playing, he became the starting goalkeeper in 2011 and made a further 56 appearances for the club, including a famous Norwegian Cup final win against Tromsø, despite being a second-tier side.

The young Nyland had had trials with other clubs during his time at Hødd, with spells at Rosenborg and Everton. However, it was the third club, Molde, who would go on to sign him ahead of the 2013 season. He quickly became their first-choice keeper, making 84 appearances in two years, including his UEFA Champions League debut. He would win the Cup twice and the league title in 2014.

He then made his first move abroad in the summer of 2015, joining FC Ingolstadt 04 after they won promotion to the Bundesliga. He featured 20 times in his first two season, before becoming the undisputed first-choice keeper in his third season, 2017/18, with 33 matches in the 2. Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.

He has started in every game for the Norwegian national team in 2023

Good performances for Ingolstadt brought him the opportunity to move to England in 2018/19, signing for then-Championship outfit Aston Villa. An injury at Christmas ruled him out for 11 months, with the Villains reaching the top-flight during his injury. Although he did make his return with 12 appearances in 2019/20, including the Carabao Cup Final defeat against Manchester City, and a further appearance in the same competition in 2020/21, Nyland left after agreeing to a mutual termination of his contract and signed for Norwich City for the second-half of the season, but he did not feature in any official matches.

In the 2021/22 season, he joined Bournemouth for six months, playing in three matches, before joining fellow Championship side Reading for the rest of the season, playing in ten matches. He was unattached at the start of last season, but was eventually picked up by RB Leipzig in October after a long-term injury to Péter Gulácsi. He made three appearances in his return to Germany.

On an international level, Nyland featured for Norway at all age groups. At U21 level, they were runners-up in the UEFA U21 EURO in 2013, losing the final to Spain. He made his debut with the national team in November 2013 against Scotland, and has 46 caps for his country. He has started in every game so far in 2023 for his country.
