SERGIO RAMOS RETURNS TO SEVILLA FC AFTER 18 YEARS

Sevilla FC have reached an agreement for the signing of Sergio Ramos.

The academy graduate is returning to the club 18 years after he signed for Real Madrid in 2005, aged 19.

Ramos, who was a free agent after his time at Paris Saint-Germain, arrived in the city this morning for his medical and has signed a one-year deal with the club.

Born in Camas, a few kilometres from Sevilla city centre, on 30th March 1986, Sergio joined the Sevilla FC academy aged seven, and progressed through the ranks before making his reserve-team debut aged 16, in the 2002/03 season.

The following season, Joaquín Caparrós gave the youngster his first-team debut on 1st February 2004, replacing Paco Gallardo in a 1-0 loss away at Deportivo La Coruña. He made seven appearances that season, and quickly became a mainstay in the starting XI. 

In the 2004/05 season, Sergio was a starter, making 31 appearances in the league and scoring twice. He also featured in four Copa del Rey and six in the UEFA Cup, scoring against CD Nacional in the team's first European match in the 21st century. 

Ramos made 49 appearances and scored three goals in his first spell

He featured in the first match of the 2005/06 season against Racing, before joining Real Madrid on deadline day. His spell in the capital was a highly successful one, with 101 goals in 671 appearances. He picked up 22 winners' medals at the club, including five LaLiga titles and four UEFA Champions League successes.

Sergio's time in Madrid came to a close in the summer of 2021, when he made the move to France to join PSG. He made 58 appearances in the French capital, and was on the scoresheet six times. Another three winners' medals followed, with two in Ligue 1 and one in the French Super Cup. He left the club on 30th June at the end of his contract.

Ramos' success is not just limited to club football. The defender is the most-capped player in the history of the Spanish national team, with a remarkable 180 appearances, and he has also scored on 23 occasions for La Roja.

Sergio featured at every World Cup and EUROS between 2006 and 2018, seven tournaments in total, and also at the Confederations Cup in 2009 and 2013. He has winners' medals from three of those tournaments: EURO 2008, the FIFA World Cup in 2010, and EURO 2012.
