We are through to the second round of the Copa del Rey after beating CD Quintanar 3-0. First-half dominance resulted in a 2-0 lead at the break courtesy of goals from Rafa Mir and En-Nesyri. Pedrosa put the icing on the cake with a superb injury-time strike into the top corner. It is his first goal for the club having been denied by a dubious VAR call against PSV. Diego Alonso's side will find out who they will face in the second round during Tuesday's draw, which starts at 13:00 CET.
Sevilla kept possession for large parts of the game, CD Quintanar unable to create many attacking opportunities. The wings were utilised to launch attacks early on, especially through Pedrosa on the left-hand side, but Quintanar goalkeeper David Moreno wasn't really troubled. Halfway through the first half, we had our first clear chance. A Lamela cross to the back post was sent back across the face of the goal by Óliver Torres to Rafa Mir, who headed in to open the scoring. Quintanar almost equalled the scoring straight from the kick off, but Badé recovered well to stop the attack.
A goal apiece for our attacking duo in the first half took the sting out of the tie
The hosts' responded to going behind by forcing two dangerous corners that were swung into the visiting box. Then, with half an hour played, Christian went close to levelling the scores with a shot that followed another dead-ball situation. In the closing stages of the first period, we doubled our lead as Fernando surged forward to start a clinical counterattack that was ultimately converted by En-Nesyri who buried the loose ball. Just before, Luismi had tested Nyland again, with the Norwegian saving smartly to prevent the equaliser. More profligate finishing was on display in the second half and Quintanar looked to get back into the game by turning to their bench and Diego Alonso followed suit, introducing Kike Salas, Gattoni and Januzaj shortly after.
The winger had few opportunities although the possession was exclusive in the opponent's half. Januzaj added a spark to the attack, breaking forward although David was able to keep him out. In the closing stages, there was a special moment as Darío came on for his first-team debut, alongside Manu Bueno. As the clock ticked into added time Pedrosa then made it three with a rocket of a shot from the edge of the box. In the end, we got the job done breezing through to the next round and now turn our attention to Vigo for a crucial league fixture on Saturday.
