Sevilla FC continue to be used as a reference point by the minds behind the industry of elite football. As one of the most successful teams in Europe, the club's achievements since the turn of the century provide a clear template for success in management, ingenuity and strategy. To expand on this, Víctor Orta, Sevilla FC sporting director, appeared as a special guest at the 'Transfer Room Summit,' attended by representatives from more than 100 elite clubs in Lisbon earlier this week.
Orta, alongside LOSC Lille manager, Paulo Fonseca, gave a presentation on the process of hiring a head coach at a top-level club. He detailed the recent approach taken ahead of announcing Diego Alonso as coach, starting with assessing availability before proposing the idea to the board, conducting an interview process and ultimately drawing up the contract before official unveiling.
The sporting director was notably vocal in his backing of Alonso. Orta emphasised that, while the Uruguayan's tenure has admittedly not begun as he would have hoped, only Arsenal have been capable of victory over Alonso's side. This stance was made clear at the end of his presentation: "The results will come and we must remain calm."
