Lucien Agoumé has been officially unveiled as a Sevilla FC player. Having been announced this morning, the midfielder revealed that he was delighted to be here and couldn't wait to get started. "I'm really happy to be here. It is a fantastic opportunity for me and settling in has been easy given that I already knew some players, such as Nianzou, Soumaré and Badé." In terms of his first impression of Quique Sánchez Flores, he said that "I spoke with the coach before coming and he made it clear what he wanted from me, what he wanted me to do on the pitch. We got on well and I am ready to give everything I have."
He also spoke about interest from other clubs, such as Marseille, but we were always the first choice. "Marseille were interested in signing me, but I had a long conversation with Víctor [Orta] and the decision was easy. Coming here is definitely the correct decision for me. In terms of the language, I studied Spanish in school but the last few years I've mainly been speaking Italian, however I will try to improve my Spanish."
Having played with Nianzou before, he was questioned about their relationship. "Nianzou is a good friend of mine. We've played together in the French set up since being 14 years old. We are friends on and off the pitch, and that always makes things easier." Given that he will be playing in a new league, he expressed his excitement for the new challenge. "I'm a big fan of Spanish football, and football in general. I have plenty of friends that play here and watch the games often. LaLiga will be a different ball game for me but I'm very excited. It's probably the world's second best league behind the Premier League."
"We have a strong squad and only hard work can change our fortunes"
Finally, he discussed the team's current situation, aware of the difficulties but confident of helping to gain better results. "I understand that the team's situation is not the greatest at the moment, but it is a big and very important club. Despite recent results going against the team, I am confident that we can rise up the league table. We have a strong squad and only hard work can change our fortunes."
