Sevilla FC Women suffered a 5-0 defeat away against UD Tenerife. They went a goal down within the first minute and did not manage to recover, meaning that their poor record in Tenerife continues.
The game started in the worst possible manner as Tenerife took the lead from a corner; Thais Ferreira was unmarked in the six-yard box and headed into the back of the net. Cristina Martín-Prieto and Amanda Sampedro had opportunities to level the scores, but ultimately they were outclassed by the home side. In the 23rd minute, the lead was doubled as Babajide scored a beautiful goal. Her left-footed shot from outside the box went in off the crossbar and left goalkeeper Esther Sullastres with no chance. Tenerife then scored a third and a fourth before half time, firmly putting the result beyond doubt. María Estella and Blom were the players to get their names on the scoresheet.
It was a long second half for Cristian Toro's side
Looking for a second-half reaction, Toro made a triple substitution at half time, but the second half started just like the first. Tenerife scored from another corner, this time Maria Estella got her head on the ball, scoring the home side's fifth and her second of the day. Content with the 5-0 scoreline, Tenerife took their foot off the accelarator, leading to a fairly subdued second half. It was certainly a very different story to Sevilla FC Women's 5-1 win in the reverse fixture.
They will be back in action next week with a home match against Real Sociedad at 12:00 CET on Saturday 30 March. It is the final match before the international break.
