Cristina Martín-Prieto took part in the women's first team's 'Media Day' this week as we look ahead to Sunday's away match against Real Betis Balompié. Our striker spoke firstly about how preparations are different during weeks like this: "This week is pretty unique. It's been marked in the calendar for some time, but it would be a mistake to think it will pan out the same way as the reverse fixture." They have a lot to play for and obviously have the home advantage, plus we have to remember that we didn't win here last season, so I think we have to go out there and fight, in the hope of redeeming ourselves after last weekend's defeat at home."
Martín-Prieto also discussed the atmosphere in the dressing room: "There's always a huge buzz among the players in the build-up to derby days. We have an extra hunger to win because coming up against your local rival means there is more at stake on an emotional level." Asmed to describe the emotions she felt afte scoring a brace in the 6-0 win earlier in the season, the forward admitted "it would be silly for me to reflect too much on that, but it's something I'll never forget. At the end of the day, I just try to do my job and play as best as I can each week. We need to adopt that mentality because we know the opposition are going to be raring to go on Sunday."
To close, she sent a message to our supporters: "We're all in this together and us players know this won't be an easy task for us, so I ask that everyone stands behind us because the fans are a huge part of what makes us who we are."
