Chidera Ejuke, our first signing of the 2024/25 season, spoke to the club's official media in his first interview as a Sevilla FC player. The Nigerian started, "I'm really happy to be a part of this family and I'm looking forward to achieving many great things here. I'm really happy and I'm excited to be here. To have an interest from a club like this, it's massive. When my agent told me that the club was interested I was very excited about what was to come and in terms of the communication it has been easy. I'm happy with how everything went and now I'm just looking forward to it."
Ejuke spoke about his relationship with Dodi Lukébakio having played alongside him at Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga. "We spoke a little bit. I spoke to him some weeks back and he told me if I ever needed anything I could give him a call. It makes it easier for me having someone here that I know."
"We can get the club back to where it should be"
"I know that it's a good city and a big club with good traditions. The club has won lots of trophies in the past years. It's a big club with high ambitions, they always want to be on the top, competing for trophies. I think that with the calibre of players in the team, and with me coming in, I know that we will do what we can to get the club back to where it should be. There will be challenges during this period but I know that as a team we will stand together to make that happen. As I say, it's a big club that deserves to be where it should be," he continued.
Asked about his style of play and preferred position, he responded, "I'm a player who likes to enjoy football and have fun on the pitch. I can contribute a lot of things - passing, dribbling, speed, working hard for my teammates. Primarily, I like to play on the left wing but I can adapt to play on both sides. It's not too much of a challenge because normally I have to do that. But I mainly prefer to play on the left. In reality it's not really a comparison but I like the way Neymar plays. I think he's really good in his position, the best in fact. I enjoy watching him on the pitch and seeing what he does, the way he contributes to football."
"As a football player, you look forward to playing in these types of games"
The African winger also talked about his time in Norway and his opinion of LaLiga. "It was a great experience. It was my second time in Europe and I had to deal with the weather, the change of environment and people. But over time I adapted and I really enjoyed my time in Norway. I think the Spanish league is one of the best leagues in the world. You see a lot of quality players and a lot of quality teams. It's a little different from other countries but the Spanish league is known for good football. This is what I'm looking forward to, to come and enjoy."
"The majority of the season I have played, I have enjoyed. Regardless of whatever happens I just like to enjoy football and for me I have enjoyed all the leagues and all the teams that I have played in. There have been plenty of good moments that I won't forget. As a football player, you look forward to playing in these types of games and showing what you can do, contributing to the team. I'm definitely looking forward to these games and hopefully we can get good results," he explained about playing in different countries and the switch to playing in Spain.
"Vamos a hacer todo lo posible para que la afición se sienta orgullosa"
Ejuke will be the first Nigerian to play for the club, after almost 50 countries. "It's a special feeling to be the first Nigerian. But it just feels good to be part of this team and I'm looking forward to contributing what I can. I hope that I can return to the Nigerian side, it's always nice to represent your country. So hopefully this will be the time to do that again."
Finally, he addressed the fans. "To the Sevilla fans, I hope that you guys can keep supporting us. We will do our best to make you proud and hopefully we can compete like proper champions this season."
