DEFEAT AGINST SPORTING CP DESPITE LATE BURST (2-1)

We fell to a 2-1 defeat in our second pre-season friendly against Sporting Club de Portugal at the Estadio Algarve. Xavi García Pimienta's side got another 90 minutes into the tank as pre-season preparations continued but couldn't come away with a win to show for it against the Portuguese side. 

In the first half, it was Sporting who had the better of the chances and were the more threatening of the two sides. They had the first chance when Catamo broke down the right but his shot went wide. A minute later, Nuno Santos had another chance but couldn't make it count They took the lead with 15 minutes played when Rodrigo Ribeiro took advantage of a good pass from the left flank that caught our defence out. Saúl crashed a free-kick into the ball and then with half-time looking Ejuke found Pedrosa, who in turn crossed for Isaac, but on the stretch he couldn't convert the clearest chance of the half. 

With just a minute on the clock in the second half Sporting made it two through Trincão, after he skipped inside Pedrosa and Kike Salas. Suso tried his luck just after coming on with a cross that ended up in the hands of Kovacevic and after the hour mark came the multiple changes with many academy players coming on. This fresh injection of energy brought reward as Idumbo, Rivera and Manu Bueno picking up possession and looking to get on the front foot.

From a free-kick, Suso tried his luck, but his shot went narrowly wide. A minute later good play between Suso and Collado ended with a pass back into the box, with Ramón Martínez waiting to apply the finish for his first senior goal, although the game ultimately finished in defeat.
