We fell to a heavy defeat in our final game of pre-season as we were defeated 4-1 defeat at Anfield against a strong Liverpool side. With a mix of first-team and youth players, we made a bright start in the lunchtime sunshine and the first chance of the match fell the way of Idumbo after some good high pressure saw him win the ball back, but one one-on-one he couldn't take advantage and his shot drifted over. García Pimienta's side would be made to pay soon after as some good Diogo Jota found himself at the back post unmarked and released an unstoppable volley into the top corner to open the score. Liverpool were ruthless and a brace from Luis Díaz saw them them a three-goal advantage into half time.
The second half was a different story, with García Pimienta changing virtually changing the entire XI. Peque scored a fine goal to close the gap, taking advantage of a great move by Chidera Ejuke down the left flank and curling past Alisson. The joy was short-lived, however, as barely a minute Nyoni volleyed in a fourth for Liverpool to consigne us to defeat in our final pre-season friendly.
Next up is a week of training before the league season gets underway with a visit to UD Las Palmas on Friday night at 21:00 CEST
