Head Coach García Pimienta spoke after the win in the Gran Derbi: “It was a great experience. It is difficult to win these games. Every match is hard. On top of that, today we were playing against our city rivals and again we went down to ten men. The fans did not stop cheering and thanks to them we have found strength from where there was none. The fans deserved this win."
He also spoke about the chances to score more: “If you can score a second with the chances we had in the second half, it is difficult for them to come back. As it was I don't remember any clear-cut chances for Betis but they had half chances. This is the way forward, dealing with difficult moments and working hard."
"I am very happy with how we played"
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the same pace of the match after taking the lead: “The goal came in the second or third minute, there was the whole second half left, it is normal that they subdue you and have chances. The intention was to keep having the ball, get to the opponent's goal and fight for every ball. We were playing at home and we had the fans as our 12th man. We had the chances to score the second goal. We didn't succeed and that's why the match was open. I'm very happy with how we played."
Once again García Pimienta paid tribute to Jesús Navas: “He is very exciting, the player with the most derbies in history. He came on and revolutionised the second half. He inspired the fans who were excellent. It's a shame that it's his last derby. I'm going to try to convince him. I have nothing to lose. It is his decision, not ours."
"We need to continue keeping clean sheets"
"We need to continue keeping clean sheets. Sometimes you suffer but we made a team like Betis generate very few scoring chances. If we are solid and competitive, we will play well and we have quality players. Everything depends on our defensive commitment. It's a relentless commitment. This is the way forward,” he said.
