On Wednesday night, and heading into the early hours of Thursday morning, a special event took place at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, dedicated to club captain, Jesús Navas. The man himself took part in a live broadcast hosted by local radio station Onda Cero's Radioestadio Noche, which celebrated his unrivalled footballing career, weeks before he hangs up his boots. It was an emotional programme, full of anecdotes and appearances from important figures of the club's history, including Pablo Blanco and Joaquín Caparrós, before the legend blew out the candles on his cake live on air to mark his 39th birthday.
Accompanied by Club President José María del Nido Carrasco, Navas shared how he views his upcoming farewell as "something to be proud of. I'm sure it's going to be incredible. These last few months have been tremendous, and I only feel a deep affection from everyone, which is a lovely feeling. Maybe that's because, as far as I'm concerned, I haven't changed since I started my career here."
Del Nio Carrasco added that Navas "has made this decision himself, and whatever he decides, we fully support him. In 134 years of the club's history, there is no player like Jesús Navas; he has never conducted himself poorly, and he is loved everywhere he goes. He is the best reflection of the values of sport,’ added Del Nido Carrasco.
The mayor of the Sevilla, José Luis Sanz, also announced live on air that "as an icon of the city, Jesús Navas will receive the keys to Sevilla on 30 May, the day of San Fernando."
