Sevilla FC Women secured a great 1-0 victory against Athletic Club in Lezama. In the first half, Sevilla FC Women were well-organised and, although the hosts dominated in pace and chances, the visitors held firm and, despite several close calls, gradually grew into the game. Sara Ortega was the most threatening player for the home side, though Maite Valero also had a good opportunity. For the visitors, Fatou Kanteh and Natalia Padilla Bidas created the most dangerous opportunities.
Overall, the first half featured a well-ordered visiting side, with Yolanda Aguirre very solid in goal. It ended goalless. After the break, the intensity remained high. Shortly after the restart, a good combination between Padilla Bidas on the left and Gemma Gili, who was waiting inside the box, resulted in the first goal before the hour mark.
After the goal, Sevilla FC Women looked more comfortable on the pitch, though the home coach made three quick substitutions in an attempt to mount a comeback. However, great defending and collective effort, along with a clean sheet for goalkeeper Yolanda Aguirre on her return to the team, ensured the visitors took the victory back to Sevilla. The next match will be on Sunday at home against Granada CF.
