Juanlu Sánchez has signed a contract extension with the club. The academy graduate, who in 2022 signed an extension until 2026, has now signed another extension that will keep him at the club until at least June 2029. Juanlu joined the academy aged 12 and in 20015 was part of the side that won the LALIGA FUTURES tournament. After progressing through the academy age groups he made his debut for Sevilla Atlético under the guidance of Paco Gallardo. At 16 he played made 15 appearances in Segunda B in the third tier of Spanish football.
After the break due to the pandemic, Julen Lopetegui included him in the group of youth players who worked in the so-called ‘bubble’ of the first team, which led to him being included in the squad that won our sixth UEFA Europa League title in Colognes. After being included in the squad for several matches in the Champions League and continuing to play for Sevilla Atlético he made his first team in the 2021/22 in the Copa del Rey against Andratx and then in LALIGA against Barcelona in Nervión.
Juanlu then left on loan in the summer of 2023 to CD Mirandés where he played 38 games, scoring two goals and providing five assists. Since returning, over the past two seasons, he has made a total of 66 appearances for the club aged 21, scoring six goals and making seven assists. A five-time Under-21 international, he also won an Olympic gold medal at last summer's Paris games - where he scored the semi-final winner against Morocco to take Spain to the final.
