Despite equalising on the stroke of halftime and playing the entire second half against ten men, we were unable to beat Celta de Vigo as our miserable run of form continues

The end of the season continues to be a difficult one after defeat on the road in Vigo. After going a goal down, a handball from Marcos Alonso led to a red card and then a penalty converted by Gudelj on the stroke of half time give us the momentum heading into the second 45 minutes. Unfortunately, it was not the case as even with 10 men, Celta staged a comeback and goals from Mingueza and then Borja Iglesias gave them a commanding 3-1 lead before Kike Salas netted a late consolation goal deep into stoppage time.

We started the game as the better of the two sides and in fact the first chance came our way when Lukebakio stole the ball back and then played a pass to Pedrosa whose shot was pushed out by Guaita for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Ramón had a chance from a corner but once again Guaita kept us out. In reply, not long after, Moriba had a cross-shot that Nyland was able to clear. However, the Norwegian could do nothing two minutes later, as a pass from Swedberg to the midfielder, who fired home for the opening goal. Things were then compounded as Badé was substituted after a collision with Hugo Álvarez.

Kike Salas' strike deep into stoppage time came to late

In a dramatic end to the first half, after Peque burst into the area and with a shot the ball hit Marcos Alonso on the hand. After a VAR check, a penalty and red card were awarded. Gudelj then stepped up and kept his composure to convert from the spot and level up the scores. At the start of the second half, despite being a man down, it was Celta who took the initiative and were the stronger of the two sides, taking their first chance of the second 45 minutes through Mingueza.

That was the end of our resistance, and Borja Iglesias then scored the third as Gudelj's short pass back pass failed to find Nyland. With the game virtually over, Kike scored a late consolation goal but there was no time for miracles. With three games left to play the fight for survial will go to the wire, with a vital game now at home against Las Palmas. Isaac Romero will be unavailable after picking up a yellow against Celta.
